Day 3Cairo - Luxor

After breakfast, we jump on an internal flight and head down to Luxor, where you will eventually board your floating home for the next four nights. First, however, we explore Karnak. This stunning set of temples and ancient buildings was constructed over 2,000 years, evolving along with the ancient culture. The open-air museum is genuinely one of the most enthralling experiences in the world and the air of mystery will be broken down by your expert guide who will talk you through the history of the complex.

Day 4West Bank

Sail on the Nile to three key historical sites

Start your day on the glorious river cruiser, sipping tea on your private balcony as Egypt drifts past you. However, it is not all relaxing (though there will be plenty of time for this) today is jam-packed with history! Your guide will take you to explore the phenomenal Valley of the Kings, with its three incredibly preserved royal tombs including that of Tutankhamun himself. Work continues every day here, so you never know what mysteries they will just have uncovered. From here we visit the Colossi of Memnon, 17 meter high statues that guard the temple of Amenhotep, before finishing our exploration at the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and its magnificent natural amphitheater.

Overnight: Onboard Meals: B-L-D

Day 5Edfu & Komombo

Disembarking from your river cruiser for the day you will first be taken by horse-drawn carriage to explore the best-preserved temple in all of Egypt, Edfu. Built in 273B.C. is resplendent with hieroglyphics and immaculate sanctuaries. Then we will visit the riverside temple of Kom Ombo. The temple is dedicated to the god Sobek, who protected the Nile and Horus, each having their own identical temple. There are also fascinating examples of mummified crocodiles on display, which are well worth seeing for the curiosity factor alone

Overnight: Onboard Meals: B-L-D

Day 6Aswan

Philae Temple in Aswan is our historic element of the trip today. The beautiful temple, dedicated to Isis, goddess of health, marriage and wisdom, was rescued from the rising waters of the Nile and relocated on Philae Island. Feeling like a true explorer, the only way to access this stunning temple is by small motorboat, to marvel at some of the best carvings in the whole country. In the afternoon you will take to the waters of the Nile once more in a traditional Felucca, to relax and soak in life along this majestic river.

Day 7Abu Simbel

Today you bid farewell to your river cruiser and head back onto land. With a transfer from Aswan out to the foreboding temple of Abu Simbel, guarded by the four gargantuan statues of Rameses, it is one of the most iconic sites in a country filled with iconic sites. You will explore the great temple of Rameses and the smaller one dedicated to his wife, Nefertiti, before heading back to Aswan for a truly unique experience. Tonight you will dine in an authentic Nubian house, feasting on the delights of a traditional Nubian meal. Your gracious and friendly hosts will entertain you with stories and Nubian dancing and if you feel the urge, you are more than welcome to join in.

Day 8 Aswan - Cairo

We board another internal flight today and head back to the north of the country for an exploration of Cairo itself. Firstly you will visit Ahmed Ibn Tulun, the oldest functioning mosque in Cairo to learn how big a part religion plays in the country and to marvel at the intricate design of this beautiful building. We then visit the Gayer-Anderson Museum, housed in two beautiful old villas and showcasing a wealth of Arabic history. Your final stop today is an immersion in the Khan al-Khalili bazaar, for an essential Egyptian experience. The bombardment of colour and noise is spectacular and we will spend time learning about how vendors prepare food and goods for sale before taking tea in the iconic Feshawi Cafe.

Day 9Cairo - Alexandria - Cairo

This incredible city, founded by Alexander the Great, holds some incredible treasures and it is there we are going to explore today. The Roman burial site of Kom el Shoqafa is a fascinating trip into the past to discover how Roman and Egyptian worlds collided and how their burial myths coincided. We then head to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the strikingly modern library modelled on the Great Library of Alexandria, home to over 8 million books. We will continue to see  the Mediterranean coastline at the imposing fortress of Qaitbey . Then we will drive to the most important site in African WWII history. Alamein was where the Allies defeated Rommel and Churchill cited it as the turning point for the whole war.
