Florence is often called the “jewel of the Italian Renaissance”. A Florence city break is an encounter with history, art, culture and Italy. Experience the best of Tuscany in fantastic Florence. The city’s rich Renaissance history is a sight to behold – with its grand chapels and churches, its awe-inspiring galleries and museums, and world-famous architecture. Explore the busy food markets by day, dine at the local trattorias by night, and visit some of the city’s famous ‘enotecas’ (wine bars) – Le Volpi e l’Uva among its most famous.

If you love to explore new places on foot then Florence is the perfect city for you to visit. It feels pleasantly compact, and the Arno river runs through the centre to give you an easy reference point. Take your time crossing the Ponte Vecchio as you stop to browse the shops that line the bridge and admire the views across the water. On the south bank of the river head up to Piazzale Michelangelo for incredible views back over the city. Make your way back down to level ground and take the short walk to Pitti Palace and its Giardino Boboli. The gardens are ideal for a lazy stroll as you gaze up at ancient statues and lose yourself in the peaceful calm. Cross back to the north of the river and visit Florence’s stunning cathedral, which is one of the biggest in the world and a great place to snap lots of memorable holiday photos. After a long day of sightseeing you’ll need a nice meal to help you recharge the batteries. Luckily the cuisine in Florence is based around hearty dishes that make the most of fresh local ingredients. Have your fill of traditional Tuscan food and sip some of the region’s famous wine as you plan your next day in this lovely city.

Optional Tours

Private Tuscany Tour (from 375US$ pp):  A way to enjoy Tuscany at your own pace: choose our chauffeur-driven tour and spend a memorable day visiting Siena, San Gimignano and Chianti with your travel companions!

Our day out begins in Siena, a masterpiece in itself; known all over the world for its architectural, cultural and artistic heritage, this Medieval city is recognizable among thousands and is also home to the Palio, a bareback horse race around its main piazza. Siena’s main sights are: Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Pubblico and the astonishing Cathedral (one of the few examples of Italian Gothic architecture); you can’t visit this city without seeing these three attractions!

Later, we will head to San Gimignano and see its 13 towers, the emblem of Medieval Tuscany… The town includes other artistic jewels but most people simply visit it for its idyllic atmosphere, wine and food.

A perfect way to round off an amazing day is to spend some time in the Chianti wine region, where you will be amazed by enchanting rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves. You can enrich your experience adding an optional wine tasting at a family run winery, where you will learn all about the wine-making process and taste some delightful local produce. Basically an immersion into Tuscan culture while having fun!
