Welcome to Milos
The volcanic Milos is surrounded by breathtaking coastal sceneries that are characterized by strange and colorful rock formations. It is shaped like an arch around a central crater. However, the Venus de Milo, the island’s most famous export, is located at the Louvre, which is quite a distance away. The island also has dozens of beaches, which is the most of any Cycladic island, and a succession of charming towns, which add to its present and appealing charms.
Since the Neolithic period, when obsidian was shipped to the Minoan civilization of Crete, the island has a rich history of mineral mining that dates back to that time period. Within the European Union, Milos is currently the most important source of bentonite and perlite.
A significant portion of the western side of Milos, as well as a portion of the eastern shore, is inaccessible to rental vehicles due to the presence of the Milos snake and the poor condition of the roads. However, the beaches may be reached by boat trips as well.
It is possible that the volcanic island of Milos is most recognized for its contribution to the world of art and culture, more specifically for the Venus de Milo. However, the island is also notable for its breathtaking surroundings. You will discover some of the most stunning and peculiar rock formations in the Aegean Sea right near its shoreline, in addition to some of the most gorgeous beaches in the region. As one travels farther north, the steep highlands are filled with attractive settlements and historically significant ruins.
Due to the fact that Milos is a very vast island with a relatively tiny population, several regions are still so underdeveloped and mountainous that rental cars are not permitted to enter them. Other regions, on the other hand, are teeming with contemporary resorts that allow families to take pleasure in the gentle, sandy shores and crystal clear waters. Milos, in point of fact, is home to a greater number of beaches than any of the other islands that make up the Cycladic collection.
