Itinerary

Day 1Smyrna – Pergamon– Smyrna

We’ll pick you up from Izmir Airport or from the meet-up point at 9 am and start a fascinating 3-day tour of the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse

Our first stop will be Pergamon, and more specifically, its Acropolis. We’ll visit the ruins of a city that housed the altar of Zeus, the sanctuary of Athena, the library or the temple of Asklepion.

Then we’ll resume our tour and head to Thyateira to have lunch at a local restaurant. Once we’ve regained our strength, we’ll return to Izmir (or Smyrna, as the Greeks used to call this city) to visit St. John’s Cathedral. There we’ll learn all about the persecuted churches and how they’re linked to the book of Revelation.

We’ll finish for the day, so we’ll head to our hotel in Smyrna.

Day 2Smyrna – Sardis – Hierapolis – Pamukkale

After breakfast, we’ll head to Sardis, our first destination for the day. We’ll explore the ruins of this ancient Jewish city, such as the Temple of Artemis or the Anatolian Synagogue.

Once we’ve learned all about the history of Sardis, we’ll go to a local restaurant for a full meal. With our bellies full, we’ll approach Philadelphia, founded in 189 B.C. and whose fame is due to being part of one of the Seven Churches of Asia Minor mentioned in the book of Revelation.

Lastly, we’ll visit Hierapolis, an ancient ‘spa city’. We’ll admire its ancient Roman theater and necropolis. At the hotel in Pamukkale, we’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and retire for the day.

Day 3Pamukkale – Laodicea – Ephesus– Smyrna

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel,  we’ll visit the church of Laodicea, a city that belonged to the ancient Seleucid Empire. We’ll explore the remains of its site and admire the stadium, the amphitheater, the odeon, and the aqueduct.

Our next stop on our tour of the Seven Churches of the Apocalypse will be Ephesus, where we’ll see the ruins of one of the most incredible ancient cities on this side of the Mediterranean.

We’ll gather our strength by having lunch in Ephesus and then return to Izmir. And don’t worry, we’ll drop you off at the airport in time to catch your flight back home.
