Best of Greece

Today you will head towards the Corinth Canal, where you will make a brief stop to take some photos and marvel at this famous channel that connects the Aegean Sea with the Gulf of Corinth. With this impressive engineering feat ships can avoid circumnavigating the Peloponnese peninsula for more than 400 km to reach the Ionian Sea. Continuing your tour you will visit the Theater of Epidaurus, worldwide famous for its acoustics and still in use today for a range of performances, especially in the summer. You will also spend time at the museum of Asclepius, father of modern medicine, and then travel to the city of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece. The journey will take you to Mycenae, where you will visit the prehistoric Acropolis, Lions Gate and the tomb of “Agamenon”. In the afternoon you will traverse central Peloponnese and arrive in the city of Olympia in the early evening. Dinner and accommodation.
Overnight: Olympia Meals: Breakfast – Dinner

Day 3Olympia - Delphi

Best of GreeceIn the morning you will visit the site of the ancient Olympic stadium, where the first games were held at around 776 BC. The importance of these games was apparent, given the extensive participation of the Greek cities, which suspended hostilities throughout the celebrations. The Olympiad was recognized as the only accepted chronological event all over Greece and, in essence, constituted the period of four years between two consecutive events.

Olympia was also the most important sanctuary of Ancient Greece, a place to worship Zeus, the first among the gods. The gigantic gold and ivory sculpture made by Phidias was considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

After your visit to the Museum of Olympia, you will continue your journey to Delphi traversing the suspension bridge of Rio – Antirion, a modern engineering wonder.
Meals: Breakfast and Dinner Overnight: Delphi

Day 4Delphi - Kalambaka

Best of GreeceIn the morning and after a solid breakfast you will visit Delphi, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the center or navel of the ancient world. It was here where the renowned Oracle of Delphi, a counsellor of kings and pilgrims, could be found. You cannot miss out on a visit to the museum, which houses the “bronze charioteer”, a masterpiece of Greek sculpture.
At the end of your Delphi tour, you will leave the slopes of Mount Parnassus, and head towards the plains of Thessaly, where the city of Kalambaka is located.
Arrival in Kalambaka, dinner and accommodation.

Day 5Kalambaka - Athens

Early in the morning you will visit Meteora, also recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1988. In this mysterious landscape, the natural beauty is combined with the compelling presence of the eternal monasteries suspended or “meteora” on top of the huge rocks. Currently there remain only six in use, five for the male and one for the female monastic community. (Dresscode in the monasteries: Sleeveless clothing and shorts over the knee for men are prohibited. For ladies skirts and shawls are available at the entrance in case they don’t have such clothing to cover themselves.)
On the way back to Athens, you will pass by Thermopylae, where you can see the statue of the Spartan King Leonidas I, famous for leading the battle against the Persians in 480 BC.
Arrival in Athens in the afternoon and drop off at your hotel or the nearest one.

Day 7Athens - Mykonos

Early in the morning, one of our private vehicles will be waiting for you along with your assistant to transfer you to the port of Piraeus where you will board the ferry to the famous island of Mykonos. The crossing is scheduled at the ideal time of the day so as to enjoy the sun on deck and marvel at the deep blue of the Aegean sea. The chosen name is said to be “the heap of stones” or the “rocky place”, but a later version states that the island’s name is connected to the hero Mykono, son of the king of Dilos Aniou.
Upon your arrival on the island, one of our English speaking representatives will be waiting to welcome you, transfer you to your hotel and introduce you to this famous island.
The rest of the day is free for you to relax and immerse yourself in the ‘slow’ way of life of the islanders. Overnight in Mykonos . Meals: Breakfast

Day 8 Mykonos

Free day to enjoy this magnificent island. Mykonos is the meeting point of the international “jet set”, famous for its wonderful beaches, the dazzling shops and vibrant nightlife.
The island’s cuisine is mainly Mediterranean, which makes vegetables and olive oil a basic part of the daily menu, as well as certain spices (oregano, basil …) and on many occasions, fish and seafood.
Just a few minutes away by ferry, it is the historic island of Delos, which, according to Greek mythology, was the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. This small island, inhabited since 3000 B.C., was one of the most important cultural centers of antiquity.
Overnight in Mykonos . Meals: Breakfast

Day 10Santorini

Best of Greece

Free day for you and your companion to explore this magical island, considered to be the lost continent of Atlantis, at your own pace. The name of the island was given by the Venetian Giacomo Barozzi due to the presence of a chapel dedicated to Saint Eirini. His descendants remained until 1576, when it became part of the Duchy of Naxos and until the Turkish conquest by Piyale Pasha.

Optionally, you can choose to go on a dazzling sailboat tour that comprises visits to the small islands inside the caldera, Nea and Palea Kameni, with the hot springs of green and yellow waters.

Just got back from an amazing tour of Greece! Each stop was better than the last. I loved how we had a mix of guided tours and free time to wander around. The hotel in Delphi was a standout, so cozy! Thanks, Eskapas, for making this trip unforgettable.

Eskapas’ Best of Greece tour was a fantastic experience for us. I believe the tour included the top cities in the country. The schedule was wonderful; we learnt a lot about Greek culture and ancient history, and we got the opportunity to sample many delicious Greek meals. This was one of the nicest excursions we’d ever taken. Special thanks to Stelio, our guide!

The tour pace was never exhausting for the participants. We especially had plenty of time to relax in Mykonos. The hotels were average but clean, and the beds were comfortable, which was more than enough for me. Aside from that, the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. His English was also excellent. This was my first time traveling with Eskapas, and I was satisfied with the experience.

My husband and I chose this tour to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. He’s a big history buff, so Athens was his favorite, especially because he got along so well with our history-expert guide. As for me, I’m all about the beach life, so Mykonos was the highlight for me. I’ve been wanting to visit ever since I saw it on Instagram, and it exceeded my expectations. The itinerary was perfect; there’s something for everyone!
