The best time to visit Ireland is between March and May, and September to November, when it’s not as crowded as it is in summer, or as cold as it is in winter. Self driving in Ireland is easy and efficient and is one of the best ways to get around. You’ll need to be comfortable driving on the left, however. Trains are modern and reliable, but the rail network is a little limited and if you choose to travel by train, you’re likely to need to use buses or taxis as well. We can also arrange private drivers to take you directly to your destination.

As an island country, we have a lot of fish and seafood. Along the coast, you can find fresh crabs and mussels, smoked salmon that isn’t too salty, and creamy chowders. Traditional foods like Irish stew, colcannon (mashed potato with cabbage and scallions), and boxty (fried grated potato) are still on some tables, but most recipes are more likely to have pan-European effects.
Traditional Irish soda bread is still a big deal in the area. You can find it in every store and on almost every breakfast plate. Guinness, Ireland’s rich, full-bodied stout, is served everywhere. But in Cork, order a pint of Beamish instead, which is also made in the country and has a stronger bite. Ireland has had whiskey producers for a long time, but homemade beer and cider are also becoming more popular.
