Folegandros

Folegandros

Here on the island of Folegandros in Greece, where the aroma of life is brought back to you, we extend a warm welcome. In close proximity to Santorini and Milos, Folegandros is a piece of Greece that has not been tampered with, and it features a tranquil ambiance, kind hospitality, and beautiful beaches. An excellent option for a holiday filled with tranquility!

Even though it is a little island, it is vast enough to make you feel at ease with the human dimension because everything is within your reach. The environment consists of arid hills that are surrounded by dry stone walls that stretch for kilometers over a deep blue sea.
Karavostasi, the port, the “Chora,” and Ano Merià are the three communities that can be found in this area. The wintertime population is limited to no more than 300 people, and the recently constructed fine hotels and restaurants will demonstrate their real welcome to you. Today, Folegandros is, without a doubt, a highly fashionable place.

Folegandros is located on the southernmost tip of the Cyclades, overlooking the Sea of Crete, which is located to the south of the neighborhood. The island possesses a serene beauty that is accentuated by the clifftop town of Hora, which is considered to be among the most alluring communities in the Cyclades.

Folegandros is a particularly popular destination for hikers because to its steep topography, which has terraced fields that slope down to the sea, beautiful landscape that is peppered with chapels and ruins, and several beaches that can be explored, some of which may be reached by arduous slogs. The island is only around 12 kilometers by 4 kilometers in size, and the settlement of Ano Meria and the little harbor of Karavostasis, which is located on the east coast, are both readily accessible on foot from Hora.

Even if there are no indications of it now, Folegandros has a history that may be described as quite bleak. From the time of the Romans to the 20th century, and even as late as the military dictatorship that lasted from 1967 to 1974, the island served as a place of exile for political prisoners due to its isolated location and rough terrain.
