Welcome to Poros
Poros is a small island that can be found in the middle of the Saronic Gulf, in close proximity to Agistri and Aegina. It is one of the most popular Greek islands, particularly for weekend getaways from the capital city of Athens, because of its proximity to the city of Athens, which is just a boat journey away from the port of Piraeus one hour.
Poros Town is the hub of activity on the island, and it is situated on the slopes of a hill, with a view of the great Aegean sea and Galatas, which is located on the other side of the island. In addition, the charming town of Poros is home to a wide variety of local establishments, including hotels, stores, cafés, restaurants, and taverns.
There are two islands that make up Poros: Sferia, which was called after Sferos, the charioteer of Pelopas, a mythological ruler of the Peloponnese, and Kalavria, which means “fine breeze.” A tiny bridge joins the two islands. When it was initially established, the island of Kalavria was devoted to the deity Apollo. However, Apollo eventually gave the island to the god Poseidon in return for the Oracle of Delphi. There are freshwater springs and streams on this island, which is a verdant place. On the tiny Sferia Island, which is a volcanic rock, the structure that houses the settlement of Poros today was constructed.
Because of its close proximity to the other islands in the Saronic group, Poros island in Greece is an ideal starting point for seeing the other islands in Greece. It is thus highly recommended that you combine your vacations in Poros with trips to Aegina, Agistri, and Hydra in order to have the most memorable experience possible in Saronica!
Poros is the perfect place to go if you want to participate in water sports and activities like swimming. You should go to the beaches at Mikro Neorio and Megalo Neorio, as well as the beach at Limanaki tis Agapis, which literally translates to “The Cove of Love.” Explore the seas that are so clean that you can go scuba diving, and cruise through the islands that are close by and off the coast of the Peloponnese. Exploring the interior of Poros is another option; you may go riding and hiking through the pinewoods there.
