You will always have a great time in Greece. This tour provided ample time in each location and was mostly independent. Only negative is that the hotels selections were not in the best locations which required extra time to get to / from daily activities, excursions, etc.
The Absolutely Greek tour was a great starter tour, encompassing a lot of great site visits. That being said, the tour is split into three different sections, being run by different groups. The 4 day portion that was led by one tour guide was fantastic! Melitsa was our tour guide and she was great with getting to know everyone and in giving us additional history and legends while we were on the bus traveling. This was our favorite part of the tour. We travelled with the same group of 14 people for the bulk of this portion of the tour. It was nice that there was time at each stop to visit the historical site, as well as the museum which complemented it. We were picked up by a different guide for our city and Acropolis tour. The city tour consisted of a short drive around town, with the guide pointing out some historical buildings that we didn’t stop at. Our tour was reversed from what was on the website when we booked, so we ended up doing the Acropolis tour on a Saturday, where it was significantly more crowded that it would have been if it had been on our first full day (Tuesday) as originally listed. The last part of the tour was the 3 island visit by boat. We were picked up at a specific place, then drove around picking up other people, but weren’t really given any instruction on what would be happening. So we just stuck with the group and didn’t actually get any instruction until the boat was underway. The boat ride was fine, but what they did was try to upsell you with additional tours on each island that you had to pay extra for. Each island visit was less than 2 hours, with the least being 45 minutes. The bulk of the day was spent on the boat. The islands were lovely, but not enough time was spent on Hydra and Poros. Two of the hotels that were listed on our finalized itinerary were replaced with different hotels. All but one of the hotels we stayed at were subpar. Certainly none of them felt like 3 or 4 star hotels. I understand that a lot of the buildings are much older, but one of the hotels had filthy carpet, and our room at the main hotel that we stayed at in Athens (Cental Hotel) was about the size of a walk-in closet. Overall, we had a pretty good experience. It would have been nice to have the same guide/group from start to finish. We got to know everyone and it felt like you were traveling around with your extended family. The last two days where we were on separate tours, we felt a little on our own. Although we were picked up and dropped off at the designated area, it felt very hands-off, as far as being taken care of. Still, this tour is definitely a good way to experience Greece for the first time.
My wife and I were impressed with the tour Eskapas arranged for us. I had never done a tour outside of Trafalgar or Cosmos, so didn’t know what to expect, but was very satisfied with the tour. Alex did an awesome job organizing our itinerary, taking care of everything like transfers etc so we could focus on the tour, and upgrading our room at the Marblius in Athens. Kostas was very friendly and knowledgeable and we learned a lot from our walking tour of the Acropolis. For the remainder of the tour outside of Athens around Greece, we were thoroughly impressed with our tour guide George and driver Socrates. Both were very friendly and dedicated to making our tour experience great. George had a great sense of humor and made the tour interesting through his anecdotes, Socrates was quiet, efficient and so helpful with the luggage, and we really appreciate them both organizing a Covid test for us while in the tour so we could be sure we were able to fly back home. All in all, we were very impressed with the tour Eskapas organized for us, and are so glad we were able to see so much of Greece and learn so much despite it being the off season and Covid times!
The tour covered most of the sights that I wanted to see and was very good except for the meals. The guides and the hotels were very good. We learnt so much about the country. The variety of photo stops and attractions was perfect…Good value for your money for sure… There was a lot of driving which was expected since we were seeing sites that were all across the country. The drivers were also good and respected the traffic rules. The tour need to improve included meals. Over all , I recommend it.
I would give it 4.5/5 stars. I signed-up for the 7-day absolutely greek (escorted) that consisted of 3 separate tours: half-day Athens city tour, 4-day olympia-delphi-meteora tour and half-day 3-island tour. PROS: 1. The tour company agents were always available and prompt in attending to my enquiries before and during my visit (specifically Alex and Thanasis). 2. The tour guides were knowledgeable and funny, especially George during the meteora tour. 3. The hotels were great and met many new friends with whom I now still stay in touch with. CONS: 1. The island tour was last-minute cancelled due to low participation—I do understand this is not entirely the tour company’s fault as the weather was not great that week and it’s the off-season. This happened just 12 hours before the cruise tour (it was the second-last day of my visit: I felt pretty disappointed) and would certainly appreciate it if I had been informed earlier. However, the tour agents were quick to respond and helped me make alternative arrangement— I was still able to visit an island on my own. 2. Didn’t have many lunch options for the meteora tour.
