Turkish coast has many ports, many of which are connected with the Greek islands:

  • Bodrum: A city and port in the Bodrum peninsula, located in the southwest of Turkey. The port is opposite the island of Kos, and it serves the majority of the ferry connections to Greece and the ports of Kos, Rhodes, and Symi. The city is well known for its medieval castle and is a getaway to beautiful beaches and holiday resorts around the area.
  • Cesme: A resort town 87 km east of Izmir, Turkey’s third-most populated city after Istanbul and Ankara. The Cesme castle is one of the city’s most famous attractions, but many visitors go to Cesme for its wind and waves. Windsurfing, kite surfing, water skiing, and surfing are popular activities in Cesme. Located opposite Chios, the port of Cesme serves regular ferry connections to the Greek island.
  • Marmaris: A resort town in the Turkish Riviera that is well-known for its vivid nightlife, all-inclusive holiday resorts, and villas with great views over the Mediterranean Sea. The port of Marmaris in southwest Turkey is located close to Rhodes and it serves regular ferry connections to the Greek island.
  • Fethiye: Located in the south-west of Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, Fethiye is a place of unique natural beauty. The port is a natural harbor surrounded by trees, crystal blue waters, and rock formations. From there you can get a cruise to hidden beaches and coves and the city of Antalya. The port of Fethiye has regular ferry connections to the Greek island of Rhodes.
  • Kusadasi: A beach town and resort in Turkey’s western coast, around 80km south from the city of Izmir. Kusadasi has beautiful beaches and if there you should definitely walk around the town and shop in the local markets and souvenir shops. It’s also 20km away from the archaeological site of Ephesus (or Efes). The port of Kusadasi is well connected by ferry with the neighboring island of Samos in Greece.
  • Ayvalik: A small port town in the northwestern coast of Turkey with colorful corners and impressive nearby beaches. It’s worthy to walk around Ayvalik’s streets and discover its hidden squares, have coffee in traditional coffee shops and shop souvenirs in the local markets. The port of Ayvalik is located very close to the Greek island of Lesvos and during the summer months, you can easily organize a day trip to Turkey.

Ferry routes from Greece to Bodrum, Cesme, Marmaris, Fethiye, Kusadasi and Ayvalik

 

Ferry from Kos to Bodrum

This is one of Greece’s most popular ferry connections to the Turkish coast. The distance between the port of Kos and the port of Bodrum is around 20km (10 nautical miles), so the ferry ride lasts from 20 minutes to 45 minutes. During the summer months, at least 2 ferries per day serve this itinerary, and the ferry ticket prices start from 17€.

Rhodes is the capital of the Dodecanese complex of islands and a unique destination of great beauty and important history. If you choose Rhodes for your summer holidays, we highly recommend taking a ferry and visiting the impressive Turkish coast for a day or two. Rhodes is well connected to Turkey, with ferries departing from Rhodes to Bodrum, Marmaris, and Fethiye.

  • Ferry from Rhodes to the port of Marmaris: This is the most frequent ferry itinerary if you want to go from the island of Rhodes to Turkey. The Rhodes – Marmaris ferry route runs at least once a day, while the ferry ticket prices start from 40€ and the trip lasts 1 hour.
  • Ferry from Rhodes to the port of Fethiye: There is one ferry per day operating in the route Rhodes – Fethiye. The ferry ticket prices start from 50€ and the ferry ride lasts 1,5 hours.
  • Ferry from Rhodes to the port of Bodrum: This ferry itinerary runs 4 times every week. The ferry ticket prices to go from the port of Rhodes to the port of Bodrum start from 42€ and the ferry trip duration is 2,5 hours.
Ferry from Chios to Cesme

The distance between the island of Chios in the North East Aegean sea and the port of Cesme in the west coast of Turkey is only 15km (8 nautical miles) which means that the ferry ride is short and ideal for a day trip!  There are at least 2 ferries departing from the port of Chios to the port of Cesme every day during the summer months. The duration of the ferry trip is from 20 minutes to 40 minutes while the ferry ticket cost starts from 25€.

Symi (or Simi) is a colorful small Dodecanese island with picturesque architecture and beautiful beaches. Although the island of Symi promises relaxing holidays, you can catch a ferry to Turkey and explore the charming Turkish coast. There is a direct ferry to Bodrum 3 days a week from the port of Symi. The duration of the Symi – Bodrum ferry trip can be from 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes, and the ticket prices start at 42€. You also have the option to book an indirect trip from Symi to Turkey via the island of Rhodes. Symi connects daily to the port of Rhodes, the ferry ride is around 1-1,5 hour and the ferry ticket cost starts from 9€.

Ferry from Lesvos to Ayvalik

The island of Lesvos in the northeast Aegean is an excellent option for your summer holidays in Greece, combining a smooth climate, beautiful beaches, picturesque villages, and diverse natural beauty. From Mytilene (capital of Lesvos) you can get a ferry to the nearby port of Ayvalik in Turkey. The distance between the port of Mytilene to the port of Ayvalik is approximately 37km (19 nautical miles) so the ferry trip lasts 1,5 hours. There are 2 itineraries per day on this ferry route, and the ferry tickets cost around 15€.

Ferry from Samos to Kusadasi

Samos is an island of unique beauty and great history located in the northeastern Aegean Sea, next to the islands of Ikaria and Fournoi and near the Turkish coast. Samos is around 65km (35 nautical miles) from the port of Kusadasi, so the ferry ride between the two ports lasts 1,5 hours.  The ferries from Samos to Kusadasi depart from two of the island ports: Pythagorio (located in the south of the island) and Vathi (located northeast). Whichever port of departure you choose, the ferry trip to Kusadasi lasts 1,5 hours, and the ferry ticket prices are around 30€ per person.

Ferry from Patmos and Leros to Bodrum

There are additional ferry connections from the Greek islands to Turkey to search for which might better suit your summer holidays. For example, once a week you can get a ferry from the Greek islands of Patmos or Leros to the port of Bodrum on the Turkish coast.  The direct ferry ride from Patmos to the port of Bodrum lasts approximately 2 hours and the ferry tickets start from 36€. If you are in Patmos and want to travel to the coast of Turkey you could also consider traveling to Kos and Bodrum. There is at least 1 ferry connection per day between Patmos and Kos. The direct ferry from Leros to Turkey takes approximately 1,5 hours to reach the port of Bodrum. The cost of the ferry is 29€ for a single economy ticket. You can also indirectly travel from Leros to Bodrum via the Kos island. There is at least 1 ferry per day connecting Leros and Kos.
